Founder and Company History
The W.H. Bagshaw history is a story of generations, a testimony of how a robust manufacturer has evolved and flourished over time. Our founder, Walter H. Bagshaw, was born in Derbyshire, England in 1847, the fifth in a family of ten children. He was educated in England until the age of nine, when he went to work at T.R. Harding in Leeds, England, manufacturing comb pins. He stayed there for three years, bouncing back and forth from other manufacturing jobs, but would finish his time in England with his original employer before heading off to America.
Upon first arriving in the United States, Walter found himself working for a small manufacturer in Lowell, Massachusetts. Walter then took the plunge and went into business for himself establishing a pin comb manufacturing business on Howe Street in Lowell. The Bagshaw Company moved to its current location, Mill # 5 in the Millyard in Nashua, New Hampshire in the fall of 1950, after Textron Mills vacated the city.
Since 1870, led by five generations of Bagshaws, the Bagshaw Company has been a major domestic and international supplier of all types of pins, pin assemblies and wire products. In fact, we’re the oldest pin makers in America.
With the same entrepreneurial spirit of our founding father, the company has evolved its processes and products over the decades. Our most recent chapter has been in the precision turned parts market. In response to customer inquiries, we entered the CNC market and now turn parts for the Medical, Aerospace, Defense, and High Tech industries. Our dedication to world-class manufacturing that was honed in the manufacturing of more simple pins continues with our CNC department. Our many years of experience and comprehensive pin knowledge allow us to provide solutions to all our customers’ continually changing needs. We manufacture to exact specifications and precise tolerances, and embody lean principles, including continuous improvement and reduction of waste to ensure our competitive position in the marketplace.
